Ben and Paul Nichols, owner and trainer of Getaway Trump.
The Betfair Ascot Chase Race day , with the boys on a mission to take the bookies to the cleaners. Ben ,Joe ,Dan, Gary, and Dave.We all met up in the Bar 1 and Club 1 Ascot. Joe and Gary got the beers in; after all, they had free hospitality all day .
Hospitality looked good.
I always look at the first race to get you up; then it gets better. This plan didn’t work, however. Time for Pie and Mash at a tenner. Deisa Abba should have stayed in the stable No 2.
It all changed Race 2. BallyAndy was favourite but I had to go for an outsider Brio Conti 28/1with Bryony Frost on the Nichols trained horse .Held up but then powered along towards the finish. As you can see below well behind on the first Lap but finished well. The race went to the stewards but Brio kept the race
No sooner did I collect my winnings than we were invited up to hospitality. Obviously needed some entertainment. Time for a winning bet on Mister Malarky at 4/1. Conneygree : what a horse great record duly retired at 12 after being pulled up.
Just before the big race of Getaway Trump, Ben was asked his opinion about the race from Matt Chapman of ITV. Ben was upbeat about its prospect and had a few words with Paul Nichols ,Cobden and former jockey of Desert Orchid Colin Brown who we met in hospitality.
Sadly the Trump lost and we’re waiting for the feedback from the owner and trainer .What a day!
