A view from the coastal path opposite our campsite.
A sense of nostalgia took us to Cornwall in July.We spent many happy years exploring the Watergate bay and Newquay area from a child’s perspective.Every place we visited had to be child friendly including the camp sites.Visiting outside the school holidays is so very different and Cornwall truly is one of the most beautiful places in Britain,if not the world.
The coastal path provides some spectacular views across Watergate bay
Its been at least 10 years since we camped ; we had the equipment, which was stored protectively in the garage. Many questions enter your head : have rats got inside and set up home, would the car cope with the journey from Essex ,would we cope with the dreaded toilet blocks resembling traps at a dog track. We decided to go for it.
Watergate Bay holiday camp which was clean with friendly staff , many different types of pitches, an indoor swimming pool and a skatepark, (sadly I forgot my board). Above all fantastic weather , which I’m sorry to say cannot be guaranteed .Newquay airport is close by but doesn’t spoil the peacefulness of the camp as flights are infrequent and start and finish on a strict timetable.

Watergate bay is one of the best beaches in Cornwall, clean and safe’ patrolled by the RNLI who were doing a great job during our stay. being ,vigilant and training to improve their people and rescue skills.

Watergate bay
Watergate bay has great facilities ,carparking (which is free after 4pm),restaurants, hire shops and a takeaway. Toilets can be found in the carpark. Try the muscles and cocktails at the beachside restaurant, great on a hot sunny day. A walk along the beach provided us with some nostalgic memories of beach tents , buckets and spades (which we still had in the tent),rock pools, and body boarding .The water was dead calm when we took the body board out and I got into my wetsuit just (no picture provided to protect my dignity).
A great place to visit.

Thanks for sharing your photos of this magical part of the world. I understand there are some great walks in Cornwall too and I seem to remember reading about one along the coastline? Very tempting and I can dig up some of the family tree along the way! Have a good day, Mel
